Dr. Penny PrenshawProfessor of Marketing

Education: B.S., M.B.A., University of Southern Mississippi; Ph.D., University of Houston

Any way you spin it, Dr. Penelope Prenshaw, Director of the Bachelor of Business Administration Program, is all about marketing. "I have an undergrad in marketing, my MBA is in marketing and then my doctorate is in marketing," she engagingly says from behind her desk in the Else School of Management. Although she was an undeclared undergraduate until she had to decide on a major, the creative aspects and job opportunities of a business degree led her to pursue a degree in marketing.

After some time at Nestlé, where she says she worked on marketing campaigns selling coffee, tea and chocolate, she went back to school to get her MBA. She then forewent another foray into corporate America and stayed in school, but this time as a faculty member.

While she says she never thought she would be a college professor, partially because of never-ending tales from her parents' careers as college professors, she fell in love with it. When she arrived at Millsaps, serendipitously where her mom works as well, she was able to combine her career with another passion - traveling - as the Director of the International Business Program.

In her role as director, Prenshaw has had the opportunity to teach in several countries but her favorite is Ireland.

"Scenery wise it was just gorgeous," she said. Plus, it's where her husband proposed.

When she isn't visiting another country, she takes the taste of her travels home with her and enjoys cooking recipes from other countries using ingredients from her very own garden. "I love to play in my yard; I love to plant," she says. "It's a combination of getting outside, and I like to plant stuff and see what grows."

With all the opportunities marketing has brought her, she finds marketing an easy major (or minor) to sell to those students who come to her for advice.
