ART SCHOLARSHIPS

ART SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ENTERING FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

The Art Department at Millsaps College reviews application materials each spring seeking potential scholars in the areas of Studio Art and Art History.  Awards are given by the Art faculty to incoming students willing to contribute in a significant and meaningful way to the program.   Millsaps Art Scholars are expected to reflect the highest level of integrity as role models for all students of art.

Art scholarships at Millsaps vary in amount, depending upon 1) a student's materials and interview prior to attending Millsaps College, and 2) his or her projected level of participation once at Millsaps.  The smaller scholarships are for those students who are not necessarily intending to minor or major in Studio Art or Art History.

For information about the application process, portfolio review, and interview for these scholarships, all of which are available only to students who apply during their senior year of high school, see the Fine Arts Day page on the Admissions web site.

Scholarships are renewable based upon academic standing and demonstration of active involvement in art classes, as specified below.  Each spring semester scholarship recipients will be asked to complete the departmental Scholarship Renewal Form, and they will also meet with faculty to discuss their fulfillment of the scholarship requirements.  Faculty in the department will work with scholarship recipients each spring to help plan their involvement for the coming year.
Following the review process, students will be notified as to whether their scholarships will be renewed or not.

In addition, all Studio Art and Art History scholarship recipients must do the following:

1.  Maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in Art courses.  If the GPA falls below this average, the scholarship will not be renewed.

2.  Demonstrate a positive collegial attitude at all times.

While at Millsaps College, students are encouraged to explore their many interests and talents.   If at any time students feel that their interests have changed, we fully support their choice to explore other areas of study.  At that time, however, we trust that students will understand their art scholarship funds will not be renewed.
