A biology major at Millsaps develops a strong foundation in the natural sciences and a breadth of understanding of the processes of life, from the functioning of single cells to the interactions of organisms with each other and with their environment. Not only do our majors learn the factual basis of the current understanding of the living world, they also develop the skills to evaluate, question and integrate new discoveries.

Millsaps biology majors do not just take courses, they are encouraged to explore their potential through research and internships that provide hands-on experience in possible careers such as dentistry, zookeeping, pharmacy, veterinary medicine and science education.

Our teaching and research facilities are excellent, and include two nine-headed conference microscopes, fluorescence microscope, a molecular biology and genetics lab, bacterial culture facility, a greenhouse and an animal care facility for the maintenance of experimental laboratory animals.
