  Economics

Millsaps is one of 5 national liberal arts colleges with both Phi Beta Kappa and AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business) accreditation. Economics is the "common ancestor" of all the Millsaps business programs; the program awarded its first undergraduate degree in 1941. Students can customize their major by choosing from among three different tracks: business economics, quantitative economics and policy economics.

Life After Millsaps

So what can a student of economics do after graduation? A look at the career paths followed by past Millsaps economics majors can provide some ideas.

  • Law School:
Millsaps economics majors have attended many prestigious law schools across the country, including Harvard and Yale.
  • Graduate Studies in Economics:
Millsaps graduates are well prepared for graduate school in economics and have attended graduate programs at Duke University, The University of Texas, Syracuse University, The University of Pennsylvania, and Louisiana State University.
  • Other Graduate Programs:
Economics majors have continued their studies in Master's of Business Administration, Master's of Public Policy, math education, and math programs.
  • Teaching:
Many students have pursued terminal degrees in economics and are now teaching at such institutions as North Carolina State University, Louisiana State University, Hampton Sydney University, The Citadel, and Millsaps College.
  • Government:
Millsaps alumni have worked with the U. S. Government at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation, and the U.S. Senate. Within the State of Mississippi, graduates have provided significant leadership in the Secretary of State's Office and the Department of Finance and Administration.
  • The Financial Sector:
Our graduates have been well placed in investment banking and other financial institutions such as Trustmark National Bank and First American Corporation.
  • Private Sector Business:
Telecommunications, real estate, consulting, and manufacturing sectors seek economists as employees as well. Millsaps graduates are employed by companies such as The A&E Network, MCI WorldCom, Parkway Properties, Maybelline, Malone & Hyde and Ernst & Young among others.
