Thorp has 24 years of experience in higher education, working for Earlham College, Lawrence University and most recently as associate vice president and dean of admission and financial aid of both Saint John’s University and the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota.

Millsaps College is the first American college or university to establish a student exchange agreement with the University of Tirana in Albania, a public institution of higher education in Albania's capital city. The agreement, signed in a December ceremony in Albania, is the latest development in Millsaps' growing repertoire of study abroad programs.
In the photo, professor Dr. Dhori Kule (left), rector of The University of Tirana, signs the first student exchange agreement between his university and an American college or university. Millsaps College representatives Dr. Michael Galaty, professor of anthropology, and Dr. Tim Ward, professor of chemistry and associate dean of sciences, participated in the December ceremony in Tirana, Albania.
"International education is an integral component to Millsaps' offerings, and opportunities such as this student exchange in Albania will enhance learning opportunities for our students and prepare them to fully participate in an increasingly complex global society," said David C. Davis, interim vice president and dean of the college. "The unique nature of this relationship between an American liberal arts college and an Albanian public university is evidence of Millsaps' innovative curriculum and entrepreneurial faculty."

Millsaps College is one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities according to The Princeton Review.
The education services and test preparation company released its “Best Value Colleges for 2010” list featuring 100 schools - 50 public and 50 private colleges and universities -in January. Millsaps is the only college or university in Mississippi included in the annual list. This is the college’s second time to be included in the list.
In its profile of Millsaps, the editors at The Princeton Review commend the school for its "small classes, dedicated professors and a profusion of southern charm." The feature also notes that points of pride for the college include a broad core curriculum, a strong interdisciplinary writing program, a five-year MBA program, health sciences mentoring program for pre-med students and a strong emphasis on study abroad.
