On February 11 Dr. Rob Pearigen was named the 11th president of the College by the Board of Trustees. The announcement followed a nationwide search. Dr. Pearigen and his wife, Phoebe, visited campus the next week for a press conference, welcome reception and meetings with administrators.
A constitutional law scholar, Dr. Pearigen will bring over two decades of leadership in higher education when he takes office on July 1. He is currently vice president for university relations and professor of political science at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Aaron Pelch, a National Football League assistant coach who from 2006 until 2009 coached at Millsaps College, has been named head football coach at Millsaps. He began work on March 1.
Pelch, an assistant special teams coach for the NFL's Oakland Raiders, coached linebackers, the defensive line and special teams at Millsaps beginning in 2006 before taking over as associate head football coach from December 2007 to March 2009.
He succeeds Mike DuBose who concluded four years as head football coach before joining the University of Memphis coaching staff in December 2009.

Millsaps College's Phi Beta Kappa chapter received the highest possible rating for 2008-2009 from the national Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation's most prestigious academic honor society.
Alpha of Mississippi, the state's first Phi Beta Kappa chapter, was one of only 22 chapters to receive the rating. The chapter will now be considered for the Exemplary Chapter Award that will be presented to three chapters at the next Triennial Council meeting in 2012.

Jackson received its largest snowfall since 1960 on February 12. Students enjoyed a day out of class and made snow angels, built snowmen and had plenty of snowball fights.
