There are two options for an art history major:
1) Art History major
(10 courses total: six art history courses; Aesthetics or an additional
art history course; two studio courses, one in a two-dimensional and the
other in a three-dimensional medium; and Senior Seminar in Art History)
2) Art History major
with a concentration in Museum Studies
(10 courses total: five art history courses; Museum Studies; two Museum
Studies internships; Introduction to Management or Fundamentals in Marketing;
Senior Seminar in Art History)
You can also choose
a double major in Art History and Studio Art.
An ideal sequence
for the art history major would move from Survey of Ancient and Medieval
Art and the beginning studio courses to other period and topical courses
in art history and aesthetics. The Junior Art History Seminar is not required
but is strongly recommended. For students planning on doing graduate work
in art history, either German or French is recommended. At least fifty
percent of coursework for the major must be taken at Millsaps, and a grade
of C- or higher is required for all courses in the major. Students may
count four semester hours of work in Honors or Ford Fellowship towards
the major.
