DIGITAL ARTS AT MILLSAPS
Our new Digital Arts concentration within the studio art major, inaugurated
in 2007, prepares students to conceptualize, produce and analyze works of digital
art, including video and web-based media, in the context of contemporary art
theory and practice. Students will also have the opportunity to apply their
digital skills to a company or studio setting in a semester-long internship.
A major in Digital Arts requires the following eleven courses:
Drawing I
Drawing II
Sculpture
Digital Arts I
Digital Arts II: Topics in Digital Arts
Internship in Digital Arts
Advanced Studio in Digital Arts
One additional studio course
Two art history courses
Senior Seminar in Studio Art with a senior project in Digital Arts.
A minor in Digital Arts requires the following five courses:
Drawing I
Digital Arts I
Digital Arts II (or Special Topics in Digital Arts)
Internship in Digital Arts or another Digital Arts course
One other studio course
Digital Arts I (four semester hours) explores the use of digital media for
artistic expression, with a focus on enhancing technical abilities and understanding
related issues of design.
Digital Arts II: Topics in Digital Arts (four
semester hours) varies in its specific focus. Topics may include digital printmaking,
video,
and web-based media. This course may be repeated for credit with a different
topic.
Internship in Digital Arts (four semester hours) requires at least 12 hours
of work each week during the semester with a local digital artist or design
firm as well as meetings with the Digital Arts mentor and other interns.
