Cheerleading
Videotape Tryouts:
Videotape tryouts are accepted for those individuals
who are not able to make it to the tryouts. Videotaped entries
are judged more critically because participants are expected to
know the entire routines and material. These should show your
best! Edit, redo parts, whatever you need to do your best.
Tape format:
Please Limit Your Tape to NO LONGER than 10 minutes.
Place contact information on Tape Label on the actual video tape.
1. General Information: The beginning
of your tape should include your name, hometown, and cheerleading
experience.
2. Personal Interview: Please answer
the 4 following questions.
Why do you want to be a Millsaps Cheerleader?
Please give an example of your dedication to a team or group.
Cheering often involves getting out in front of a crowd and performing.
What do you personally do to make sure you give your best performance
each time?
3. Entrance: This entrance simulates
your entrance to the basketball court during timeouts. It should
include gymnastics or jumps plus plenty of spirit.
4. Jumps: Required jump: Toe-touch.
Plus one DIFFERENT jump of your choice. You may perform any additional
jump or jump combination.
5. Cheer / Chant: Perform a cheer
or chant of your choice. We will evaluate the sharpness of motions
and our showmanship. Please make sure there is enough material
to evaluate your motions - if you use a short chant, please go
through it more than one time. You may choose to include additional
skills in your cheer, for example, jumps, tumbling or stunts.
6. Dance / Fight Song: Show off your
personal style and sharpness of movement. This should include
a minimum of 8 non-repeating 8 counts.
7. Additional Tumbling (optional):
You may add any standing or running tumbling series you wish.
This should be videotaped - not from previous performances.
8. Stunts
/ Basket Tosses & Other Highlights
(optional): If you wish to add a section showing your
stunting ability, you may do so. Please introduce the stunt shown & your
position or write this on attached material. This is the only
section that may include material from previous performances.
You may also send photos to supplement this area, but please
not
your whole album.
What to Wear:
Please wear shorts, t-shirts / tanks, undergarments with adequate
support, and shoes. Avoid wearing baggy clothes. Shorts should
be black or purple. Tops should be white or purple. Keep your
hair pulled away from your face. Absolutely no jewelry or nail
polish- this can distract from your performance. Please keep in
mind that appearance counts - be neat and classy!
