13th-Ranked Majors Topple Tigers, 15-1
Owen picks up five RBI, two HRs in 2-for-3 outing

February 9, 2007

JACKSON -- Junior lefthander Travis Bogue struck out five batters, only surrendering two hits in four innings of work and junior OF Hunter Owen blasted two long balls and crossed the plate three times en route to a 2-for-3 afternoon and a 15-1 Millsaps win.

On an overcast, 36 degree afternoon at Twenty Field, about 100 fans were in attendance to watch Millsaps put up 15 runs on 11 hits in the Majors' home-opener against the visitors from East Texas Baptist University -- a game that was called after seven innings.

Millsaps (1-0, 0-0 SCAC) used three different pitchers in the win, with Bogue tossing four solid innings, Brent Buffa picking up two innings of work and Quinn Salmon surrendering the lone Tigers run with two outs in the top of the 7th inning.

The Majors did their damage early, plating six runs off three hits in the first inning.

Nick Crawford started the rally, drawing a walk from Andrew Cantrell. After a Jason Hadley double down the leftfield line, Justin Carter picked up the Majors' first RBI of the season, knocking a single through the left side of the infield to score Crawford.

Several batters later after a hit-by-pitch, walk and an error, Russ Boyd topped off the Millsaps first inning, doubling to deep leftfield to score Owen, Hunter Abrams and John Pacillo.

It was all Millsaps from there, as they piled on four runs in the third and four in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Six different Majors picked up a hit, with Hadley, Owen, Luke Morrow and Boyd each recording multi-hit games.

For ETBU (0-1, 0-0 ASC), Johnathan Jolly was the lone spark on offense, picking up two of the Tigers' three hits on a single and an RBI double in the 7th.

Millsaps and ETBU will wrap up its two-game series tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
