After a season-opening twinbill sweep over East Texas Baptist University this
past weekend at Twenty Field, junior outfielder Hunter Owen
becomes the first Millsaps Major to be named SCAC Offensive
Player of the Week in 2007.
Owen
blasted two long balls and crossed the plate three times with
five runs driven in en route to a 2-for-3 afternoon as the
Majors pasted East Texas Baptist 15-1 on Friday.
In Sunday's 7-2 win, the 6 foot 3, 210-pound Jackson native went
1-for-3 from the plate with a walk, stolen
base
and two
runs scored.
In the early going, Owen is batting an even .500 (3-for-6) and
has nine total bases with five RBI and five runs scored as well
as a 1.500 slugging percentage.
Millsaps (2-0, 0-0 SCAC) will play Mississippi College in the first
game of the Cowboy Maloney Series tonight at Twenty Field. Game
time is scheduled for 6 p.m. with weather permitting.
