Majors Pummel Piedmont, 14-3
Sunday's game cancelled due to inclement weather

February 25, 2007

DEMOREST, Ga. -- In the first game of a two-game series at Loudermilk Field that was shortened to one game due to inclement weather on Sunday, the 13th-ranked Millsaps Majors pummeled the Lions of Piedmont College, 14-3.

Millsaps (7-2, 0-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) pounded out 14 hits as they improve to 2-2 in road games and 7-0 in games when they out-hit their opponent.

Piedmont drops to 2-2 at home and 2-6 overall in the early season.

Junior lefthander Travis Bogue (2-1, 3.38 ERA) picked up the win for the Majors, tossing five solid innings while striking out two and surrendering only two hits. Jay Hollenbeck, Max Berry and David Hutzel pitched the final four innings in the win.

The Majors scored early and often, plating two runs in the second and fourth, three in the third, fifth and eighth and one in the seventh.

Eight different Majors recorded at least a hit, with Justin Carter (2-for-5), Hunter Owen (5-for-6) and Jason Hadley (2-for-3) leading the offensive attack with a combined nine RBIs.

For the season, Owen (pictured) is batting a stellar .588 (20-for-34) with 21 RBIs, 14 runs, 40 total bases and four HRs. He also holds a 1.176 slugging percentage through nine games.

Tom Dimitroff (0-1, 3.18 ERA) picked up the loss for the Lions, surrendering five runs -- all earned -- off seven hits in only three innings of work.

Millsaps will open up a three-game homestand on Tuesday, Feb. 27, playing host to Huntingdon College out of the Great South Athletic Conference at 4 p.m.

The 19th-ranked Emory University Eagles (5-0) will then come to town for a two-game series at Twenty Field on March 3 and 4. Saturday's game is slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch with Sunday's game scheduled for a noon start.

All three games will be broadcast by Derrel Palmer on Jackson's ESPN Radio 1240 AM and online at www.espnradio1240.com.
