Boland's Solo-Shot Helps Millsaps Win Fifth-Straight
Majors to play 5 of 6 on the road before opening 12-game homestand

March 8, 2008

JACKSON – Senior Derrik Boland’s solo-shot in the fifth inning broke a scoreless game and gave Millsaps its first hit, as they rallied for two runs in the inning and a single run in the seventh to hold on for a 3-1 win over Wabash University (Ind.) Saturday afternoon.

Despite getting out-hit 8-3 in the contest, Millsaps (11-5) found the ball at the right times, picking up a pair of timely hits from Boland and Quinn Salmon that led to two runs while a Josh Ordeneaux single allowed Billy Murphy to sacrifice Ronnie Wheat from third for the lone run in the seventh.

Wabash (1-6) managed just one run, that coming in the bottom of the eighth off a Shaun Rico RBI-groundout, that broke a streak of 21-consecutive scoreless innings from the Majors' pitching staff.

Senior Travis Bogue scattered five hits and no runs over five innings to improve his record to 3-2 on the year, while freshman Aaron Williams recorded his second save of the year by tossing the final 4.0 innings in relief.

Winners of five-straight after losing five-of-six, Millsaps will play six games this week beginning on Tuesday with Mississippi College in the annual Cowboy Maloney Trophy Series. At the conclusion of the road swing, the Majors will open a 12-game homestand at Twenty Field on March 18 with No. 19 Illinois Wesleyan.
