JACKSON --
The 13th-ranked Millsaps Majors proved to be too much for their
in-state foe, Tougaloo College, downing the visitors 32-0 and
16-0 in a 7-inning, non-conference doubleheader at Twenty Field
on Saturday afternoon.
Millsaps (12-3) jumped all over Tougaloo starter Joseph Hart
in Game 1, plating nine runs off eight hits in the first frame,
including a 3-run homer to rightfield from senior outfielder
Jason Hadley (bottom right) -- his first of the year.
The Majors would go on to add 10 runs in the second, eight in
the third, two in the fifth and three more in the sixth for their
largest margin of victory of the 2007 season.
Millsaps benefited from six long balls, including one from Hunter
Owen (6), two from Joe Blades (3) and two from Luke Morrow (3)
while pounding out a season-high 23 hits and 32 runs. Nick Crawford
was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with Hadley close behind at
4-for-4 with five RBIs and Morrow 2-for-2 with a game and team-high
six RBIs.
Brandon Ingram (2-1, 4.40 ERA) picked up his second win in as
many games, tossing a perfect three innings while striking out
four Bulldogs.
Game 2 provided more of the same results for the Majors, as they
cruised to a 16-0 victory on the heels of Jay Hollenbeck. The
junior from Memphis, Tenn., becomes the second three-game winner
for Millsaps this season (Travis Bogue, 3-1), allowing no runs,
one hit and striking out three in five innings of work.
Tougaloo committed seven errors and could only manage two hits
off Hollenbeck, David Hutzel (1.0 IP, 1 hit, 1 K) and Boomer
Hudson (1.0 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs) in the loss.
Millsaps will put its four-game winning streak on the line Tuesday,
March 12, traveling to Clinton to take on cross-town rival Mississippi
College at Frierson Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30
p.m.
Note: Tuesday's game was originally scheduled
at Twenty Field, but will be played in Clinton due
to the Feb. 13 game being played on the campus of Millsaps.
