Majors Split Opening SCAC Weekend at Austin College
Millsaps to open 12-game homestand on Tuesday, March 18 at 4 p.m.

March 17, 2008

SHERMAN, Texas – After having a season-long, 8-game winning streak snapped in the second game of a 4-game series at Austin College, another solid outing from junior left-hander Tait Hendrix on Sunday allowed Millsaps to come away with a 3-1 win in 10 innings to draw a weekend split.

The Majors opened the week with a pair of convincing wins over non-conference foes Mississippi College, 8-1, and Huntingdon College, 17-11, before dropping a pair of games on Saturday to the ‘Roos.

Hendrix had a solid week on the hill for the Majors’ pitching staff, tossing 15.1 innings of 5-hit, scoreless ball in two starts. Hendrix posted a 1-0 record on the week and held opponents to a dreary .100 batting average, striking out 14 against six walks and helping Millsaps win on Sunday.

Freshman Josh Ordeneaux and senior Hunter Abrams helped pace the offense during the road trip, with Ordeneaux going 10-for-20 (.500) with a pair of RBIs to stretch his career-long hitting-streak to 12 games. Abrams batted .440 (11-for-25) on the trip with a team-best 11 RBIs, eight runs, three doubles and three stolen bases.

Millsaps will open a 12-game homestand on Tuesday, March 18, welcoming 13th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan to Twenty Field with first pitch slated for 4 p.m. The Majors’ homestand will run through April 8.
