PINEVILLE, La.
The Louisiana College baseball team split an odd doubleheader with
Millsaps College Tuesday evening. In game one, LC used eleven hits
and a seven run sixth inning to cruise to a 13-5 win. In game two,
Millsaps Todd Kindler threw a one-hitter to lead Millsaps to a 9-0
win.
In game one,
LC (18-10) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first,
highlighted by Brad Smiths two RBI double. Millsaps would
make the score 4-2 in the top of the third on a two run home run
by Jason Hadley. LC would answer back with two runs of their own,
on a Brad Smith solo home run and a Matt Byrnes RBI single, in the
bottom of the fourth. Millsaps would cut the lead to 6-5 in the
top of the sixth, but LC blew things open with their seven run sixth
inning. Ryan Reeves had a solo home run to lead off LCs sixth
and Brad Smith, who finished game one three for four with five RBIs,
had a two RBI double. Justin Morgan picked up his first collegiate
win, going four innings and allowing two runs. Brandon Ingram (1-1)
picked up the loss for Millsaps (22-15). Offensively Millsaps was
led by Ben Wilson, who went two for three with a run scored.
In game two
the roles were reversed as LC couldnt figure out Millsaps
starter, Todd Kindler. Kindler (7-1) went seven innings, allowed
one hit, struck out three, and walked one. LCs lone hit came
in the top of the seventh when Brad Smith hit a soft-liner to left
field with one out. Millsaps was led by Ryan Skertich, who finished
three for three with four RBIs, and Garner Wetzel and Hunter
Abrams, who both had two RBIs. Drew Hampton (0-3) took the
loss for LC as he lasted only an inning and two-thirds and allowed
five runs, all earned on six hits.
LC will be back
in action Friday as they begin a three game series hosting East
Texas Baptist University. LC and ETBU are tied for the ASC East
Division lead with 11-4 records. Millsaps hosts Emory University
over the weekend.
