The Millsaps Majors (3-1, 2-0) dropped the
first Cowboy Maloney Series game of the season to Mississippi College
Tuesday night 11-5 at Twenty Field.
The game was moved to Millsaps after coaches
deemed the Choctaws playing surface unplayable.
The Chocs jumped on Majors starter Tal Hendrix
(1-1, 11.12 ERA) in the first inning when Josh Cooper homered to
right center field scoring three runs. Cooper finished 3-4 with
three RBIs and Hendrix allowed eight runs in 2.2 innings.
Rob Elling (0-0, 0.00) relieved Hendrix and
allowed one unearned run in 3.1 innings pitched.
Choctaw starter Sam Graham (1-0) pitched
five strong innings allowing four Majors runs, but striking out
seven. Graham walked one and hit two batters.
A scary moment on the game's second pitch
saw Majors leadoff hitter Nick Crawford hit by a Graham fastball
in the jaw. Crawford received stitches to close the wound. Crawford
has been hit four times in four games and is listed as day-to-day.
Centerfielder Ryan Skertich again supplied
most of the run support for the Majors going 2-4 with three RBIs.
John Pacillo took over for Crawford and went 2-3 with two runs scored
and one RBI.
The Majors next home game is set for Feb.
22 against Rust College. Then on Feb. 23 the Belhaven Blazers come
to Twenty Field for the second Cowboy Maloney Series contest of
the season. The Majors will play three against SCAC foe Southwestern
this weekend in Georgetown, TX.
