SEWANEE, Tenn. — In their second game of the day, the Majors beat DePauw University by a final score of 11-1 in seven inning game. The win moves the Majors into the final round of the SCAC tournament against Trinity University. The win today marks the Majors second win over DePauw in the SCAC Tournament. Millsaps defeated DePauw in a first round match-up.
The Majors saw a dominant pitching performance from sophomore right hander Jay Hollenbeck. Hollenbeck improves his record to 4-0 with one earned run on seven hits with two strikeouts.
The Majors continue to pound the ball as they have all season, collecting 15 team hits against DePauw. In the bottom of the seventh inning the Majors poured on six additional runs making their lead 11-1, ending the game two innings early by the NCAA’s 10-run rule.
Right fielder Garner Wetzel was 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBI’s and a homerun – his 10th of the year. Left fielder Jason Hadley also added a home run, his third, while also going 2 for 3 with two batted in.
The Majors will face off against Trinity University for the second time in the tournament tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Because of the double elimination format of the SCAC Tournament, Millsaps must beat Trinity twice tomorrow in order to capture the SCAC title. If the Majors beat the Trinity in the first game of the day, the teams will face again at 2:00 p.m. in Sewanee, Tenn. |
