Majors Split Home Opener with Hendrix

JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps Majors baseball team faced off against SCAC opponent Hendrix at Twenty Field in their 2006 home opener.

The Majors stared strong, putting up 3 runs in the first inning.With Todd Kindler on the mound for the Majors, they were able to hold Hendrix scoreless for the first four innings.

Hendrix began to demonstrate their competitive nature in the fifth inning, as Kindler finished his time pitching for the game. Opening the inning with a double, Hendrix eventually scored three runs, tying the game before the Majors were able to find their way out of the inning.

Millsaps was not able to answer, and Hendrix scored another run in the sixth, taking their first lead of the game. In the eighth, as the game seemed to be winding to a close, Millsaps tied the ballgame as John Pacillo, subbed in as a pinch runner, scored for the Majors off of a Hendrix error.

With the game tied, Millsaps and Hendrix were forced into extra innings, where the visiting Hendrix scored two runs in the tenth. Millsaps was not able to score in the bottom of the 10th, losing the ballgame by a final score of 6-4.

In the second game of the weekend, the Majors were able to handle the visiting Hendrix College. Hendrix initially scored two runs off of Majors pitcher David Hutzel in the first inning, but Hutzel combined with Drew Maddox and Brandon Ingram were able to keep Hendrix scoreless throughout the remainder of the game.

The Majors scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth and one in the seventh to take the win by a score of 6-2.

The win brings the Majors SCAC record to 1-1 and puts Millsaps at 3-2 for the season.
