JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps Majors extended their winning streak to four games by defeating the Louisiana College Wildcats by a final score of 7-5 at on Tuesday April 11 at Twenty Field.
The Majors opened the game strong, taking the early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Louisiana College stormed back with a dominating inning of their own. The Wildcats put up four runs in the top of the third to take the 4-2 lead in the game. Louisiana College held on to this lead until the Majors tied up the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Justin Carter’s sacrifice fly to left field scored pinch runner Taylor Jones from third base to pull the Majors within one run. Nick Crawford eventually scored the tying run while the Wildcats infield was preoccupied in a pickoff rundown. Jason Hadley was finally put out on the base path, but not before the damage was done by Crawford.
In the sixth inning, the Majors took their second lead of the game, scoring an additional two runs. Pinch hitter Derrik Boland hit a single and advanced on a throwing error in the inning. The hit, combined with the error, allowed two runs to score for the Majors, with John Pacillo and Luke Morrow crossing home plate. At the end of the sixth, the Majors held a 6-5 advantage over Louisiana College.
Louisiana College was unable to score again. The Majors added one additional run in the eighth, winning the game and bringing their record to 24-8. Drew Maddox (3-1) took the win from the mound for Millsaps.
The Majors take on Mississippi College in the final Maloney Series game of the season on Wednesday night at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson, Miss. Game time is at 6:30 p.m. |
