JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps Majors defeated the visiting LaGrange (Ga.) Panthers today at Twenty Field by a final score of 13-1. Today’s win completes a two game sweep for the Majors following last night’s 13-9 victory. LaGrange College was previously ranked 23rd in the nation. Millsaps improves their season record to 28-9 while LaGrange falls to 22-14.

John Fox earned the win today, improving his record to 6-0. Fox started the game and threw four innings for the Majors giving up one run on five hits. Freshman left hander Tait Hendrix threw three shut out innings in relief giving up three hits and striking out two batters.

Right fielder Garner Wetzel was 1 for 2 at the plate with three walks and two RBI’s. Second basemen Nick Crawford was 1 for 3 at the plate with a walk and two RBI’s.

The Majors are currently on a four game winning streak and have won eight of their last nine meetings. This string of wins, coupled with a two game sweep of previously top-ranked Emory University, has the Majors ranked 14th in the nation according to latest American Baseball Coaches Association Division III poll.

Additionally, the Majors are ranked 3rd in the South Region. This marks the Majors first entry into a regional or national poll in the 2006 season.

The Majors now turn their attention to their last weekend of conference play. Millsaps will host Rhodes College in a three game series at Twenty Field this weekend. A double header on Saturday, April 22 begins at 1:00 p.m. and the third game of the series will be on Sunday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m.
