Majors in First Place in South Region

JACKSON, Miss — The Millsaps College baseball team has claimed the top spot in the South region, according to the latest NCAA Division III Baseball Committee regional rankings. The Millsaps Majors have compiled an overall season record of 34-11 and are 30-7 against teams within the South region.

Additionally, Millsaps is ranked 14th in the nation in the American Baseball Coaches Association Division III poll. The Majors broke into the poll after a two game sweep of then #1 ranked Emory. Millsaps currently remains #14 in the latest ABCA poll, released earlier this week.

Most recently, the Majors were crowned Co-Champions of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. After defeating 11th ranked Trinity University (2nd in West region) in the championship round of the conference tournament, the “winner take all” game was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The 2006 championship was the second in row and the eighth overall for Millsaps and head coach Jim Page. The Majors have won or shared three of the last four SCAC baseball championships.

Millsaps is currently awaiting an at-large bid invitation from the NCAA Tournament Committee. At-large bids will be announced on Sunday, May 14. Regional tournament play begins on Wednesday, May 17.
