JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps Majors defeated the Mississippi College Choctaws by a final score of 16-1 earlier this evening at Smith-Wills Stadium. This brings the Millsaps Majors season record to 2-1 and also gives the Majors an early lead in the 3-way Maloney Series race.

Tonight’s win by the Majors also marked the 400th career victory for Head Coach Jim Page. Coach Page is now in his 18th year of coaching – all of them as skipper for the Millsaps Majors.
The Majors were led by fifthyear senior pitcher John Fox. Fox recorded nine strikeouts in seven innings of work. After giving up three hits and one run in a shaky 1st inning, Fox only surrendered one hit in his other six innings of work. This brings Fox’s season record to 1-0.
Offensively, the Majors were led by senior right fielder Garner Wetzel. Wetzel went 4 for 6 at the plate and drove in sixruns, including three on a bases clearing double in the fifth inning. Wetzel also hit the games only home run – a shot that cleared the left field scoreboard in the eighth inning. That was Wetzel’s first home run of the season.
The Majors will next game will be on Saturday, February 18 versus Hendrix College (Conway, Ark.) at Twenty Field located on the Millsaps College campus.
