MAJORS
FALL TO MCKENDREE
Perhaps the Millsaps
Majors can be excused for their somewhat flat performance on Wednesday
(3/10/04) against McKendree. After all, the Majors were coming off a series
victory over previously unbeaten SCAC foe Trinity in San Antonio last
weekend.
On a beautiful day
for baseball, Millsaps ran into some stellar pitching by the visitors
from Lebanon, Illinois, and fell by a 5-1 count. The Bearcats' Lance Marcum
(4-0) had excellent stuff on the hill as he limited the Majors to four
hits and an unearned run through five innings. Matt Spotanski took over
from there and shutout Millsaps the rest of the way, allowing just two
hits.
Todd Kindler (2-1)
scattered nine hits and allowed three runs (two earned) through five innings.
McKendree scored two in the second, one in the fourth, and added two insurance
runs in the ninth. The Majors scored their lone run in the fourth, thanks
to an infield error by the Bearcats.
Ben Wilson and Nick
Crawford each had two hits to lead the Majors offensively.
Millsaps takes to
the road for a two-game set against LaGrange College (LaGrange GA) on
Friday (3/12) and Saturday before returning home to face Illinois Wesleyan
on Sunday.
