JACKSON, Miss. — The Millsaps Majors took on the Rhodes College Lynx for their final weekend series before heading into the SCAC tournament. In the weekend contests, the Majors took the initial double header before falling to Rhodes in the Sunday match-up.
In game one of the weekend series, Rhodes took the initial lead of the contest, scoring one run in the opening inning. Still down by one in the bottom of the third, the Majors got on the board as Nick Crawford scored after being hit by a pitch. Hunter Abrams then hit a single to center field to score Justin Carter. The runs gave Millsaps a 2-1 lead going into the fourth.
Rhodes was never able to answer after the Majors started scoring. Millsaps added an additional run in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth to take the game by a final score of 4-1. John Fox took the game from the mound for Millsaps to improve his record to 7-0.
Game two was won by Millsaps as well. The Majors won this game easily, never giving Rhodes the opportunity to respond. Millsaps started their scoring drive in the first inning, bringing two runs across home plate to begin the game. The Majors added three more runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth and eighth to win the game by a final score of 8-0. Todd Kindler took the win for Millsaps as Jason Hadley had three runs off of two hits.
Millsaps struggled in game three to close out the weekend series. Although the Majors scored nine runs in the match-up, the Lynx were able to get 11 runs across home plate. In his final game at Twenty Field, senior Garner Wetzel went 1 for 3 with three RBI’s.
The weekend series brings the Majors record to a final 30-10 heading into the tournament. The Majors will be given a #2 seed after finishing second in the SCAC Western division behind #10 Trinity. |
