SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Jason Brown, a freshman left-hander from Vicksburg, Miss, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, April 12 through Sunday, April 18.

Brown had sixth-ranked Trinity tied in knots all day Sunday as he delivered a gem at crunch time, lifting Millsaps to a 9-1 victory that clinched the Western Division.

Brown went the distance, scattering eight hits in nine innings of work while walking only two and fanning four. The lone run recorded against him was unearned. He kept the Tigers off-balance with a tantalizing curve, deceptive change-up, and a sneaky fastball.

For the season, Brown has thrown 33.1 innings and allowed 13 earned runs for an ERA of 3.51. The young lefty, who is now 3-2 on the season, has struck out 26 and allowed opponents to hit just .252.

SCAC Baseball Tri-Offensive Player of the Week

Ryan Skertich, a junior right-fielder from New Orleans, has been selected SCAC Tri-Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, April 12 through Sunday, April 18.

Skertich was like money in the bank as the 26th-ranked Majors had a big weekend at home, defeating sixth-ranked Trinity twice (9-7, 9-1) to capture the SCAC Western Division Championship.

Skertich was 5-for-8 (.625) with four runs scored and two RBI, and also stole two bases and played a flawless right field, including a spectacular diving grab to rob a Tiger hit in Sunday’s game.

For the season, Skertich is hitting .357 with 45 RBI (tied for fourth in the SCAC) and 41 runs scored (seventh in the SCAC). He also has four triples (fifth in the SCAC), seven home runs (tied for sixth in the SCAC) and 86 total bases (seventh in the SCAC).
