Majors Take Saturday From Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Tex. — Fresh off of a win over cross-town rival Belhaven College, the Millsaps Majors continued their successful season on April 8 as they defeated the Southwestern Pirates by a score of 6-2 on Southwestern’s home field.  The win brings the Majors record to 22-8 (12-4) for the year.

Southwestern scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning. After two innings of play, Southwestern held a 1-0 lead over Millsaps. This score held until the fifth inning when the Majors offense came alive.

John Pacillo got things going for the Majors as he hit a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Southwestern then walked Nick Crawford and Jason Hadley, loading the bases for shortstop Justin Carter. Carter delivered with a RBI single, scoring Pacillo, Hadley and Crawford. The three runs gave the Majors a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom half of the fifth inning.

Millsaps struck again in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings, scoring a run a piece in each. Hunter Abrams scored off of a Pacillo RBI in the sixth. Carter scored off of a Garner Wetzel sacrifice fly in the seventh, and Wetzel score to close the inning for the Majors in the ninth.  Southwestern was only able to put up one additional run in the sixth inning.

The 6-2 victory was won on the mound for the Majors by Todd Kindler. The Majors will face Southwestern again on Sunday.
