Southwestern (24-5,
11-4) at Millsaps (21-12, 13-5)
History:
Since the first SCAC tourney in 1992, Millsaps has won four SCAC
Championships (Last in 2003) and Southwestern has won five (Last
one was 2002, played in Jackson)
Shootout
in Georgetown - Feb. 19-20 2005:
SU outscores Millsaps 26-22, taking two of three from the Majors.
Millsaps centerfielder Ryan Skertich went 7-14, knocking in four
RBIs, and smashing three triples. Skertich has set the SCAC single
season record for triples in 2005 with nine.
Current Slide:
The Majors are slumping at the plate, primarily the reason they
have lost five of their last six games including three non-conference
contests in a row. The Majors were hitting at a .338 clip before
the current losing skid, in which they are hitting for a .245 average.
Over the final six weeks of the season, the Majors will have played
15 games against regionally ranked opponents. So far, the Majors
have gone 3-6 against those ranked opponents. Other opponents in
the stretch have included NAIA Belhaven College (two games) and
next week the Majors travel to play a tough Louisiana College team.
Big Game
Pitchers:
Against the top two SCAC opponents (Southwestern and Trinity) Doug
Garner is 3-0 with a 3.12 ERA including two complete games against
Trinity. Todd Kindler (6-1 5.00 ERA) received his first loss of
the season against LaGrange College Thursday.
