Eight Majors named to SCAC Tournament Team

MILLSAPS DOMINATES VOTING FOR 2005 ALL-TOURNAMENT BASEBALL TEAM

CONWAY, Ark. – After wrapping up its seventh conference baseball title, the Millsaps College Majors were rewarded with the most selections on the 2005 All-Tournament baseball team – a tournament record eight.

Millsaps became just the second school since the tournament field expanded to six teams in 1999 to sweep through the SCAC Baseball Championships undefeated (Southwestern University
accomplished the feat in 2002).

The selections were made by the coaches whose teams participated in the championships (plus the host school) this past weekend at Hendrix College.

The Majors won the 2005 SCAC baseball title on Sunday with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Trinity University – last year’s tournament champion.

With its seven baseball titles, Millsaps trails only Centre College for the most all-time CAC/SCAC baseball championships. The Colonels have won eight conference baseball crowns – but none in the SCAC era.

The Majors’ Garner Wetzel and Ryan Skertich were the only unanimous selections to this year’s squad. Will Paton of Southwestern and Huston O’Connor of Trinity were selected to the team for the second consecutive year. Patric Mascorro of Southwestern and Doug Garner of Millsaps are also two-time
honorees. Mascorro made the team in 2003 and Garner was a 2002 selection.
