Majors Fall to Trinity at SCAC Tournament

SEWANEE, Tenn. — The Millsaps Majors baseball team was defeated by the Trinity Tigers in a SCAC tournament semi-final match-up. Millsaps was defeated by a final score of 12-9.

The Majors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The offense seemed to stall throughout the rest of the game, Trinity made a comeback taking a 9-5 lead into the top of the eighth inning.

Millsaps was able to tie the game at nine runs a piece off of back-to-back home runs. Right fielder Garner Wetzel hit a three-run homer followed by a solo shot from third basemen Hunter Abrams. However, the Majors were unable to hold the lead in the bottom of the inning and could not add any more runs in the top of the ninth.

The Majors used four different pitchers today, none throwing more than 2 2/3 of an inning. Freshman Drew Maddox (3-2) was saddled with the loss. Maddox came on in relief in the bottom of the eighth inning. Maddox gave up one earned run on two hits and walked in a run.

This was Millsaps first defeat of the tournament; the Majors will play DePauw University later today for a chance to advance to the finals tomorrow.

In the event that the Majors move past DePauw, they must beat Trinity twice on Sunday to capture the SCAC title.
