Millsaps College junior
shortstop Garner Wetzel was drafted in the 10th round of Tuesday’s
Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Colorado Rockies.
Wetzel now has
a tough decision to make. He can sign with the team and go play
professional baseball and try to make it to the big leagues or come
back to Millsaps for his final season and reenter the draft next
June.
Either way the
Millsaps Department of Athletics is proud of Garner who is now the
fourth player to be drafted under the watch of Head Coach Jim Page.
Garner was the
fifth native Mississippian taken in the draft as pick #297. He was
the 29th shortstop taken in the draft. Some “experts”
predict Garner could move to third base. Only 14 third basemen were
chosen before him.
