COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior forward Edrick
Montgomery had a game and season-high 28 points to go along with
13 rebounds for his 21st career double-double and senior counterpart Lorenzo
Bailey hit 5-of-9 shots from 3-point land for a season-high
21 points to become the school's new career leader from beyond the arc
with 182 total.
Bailey broke Brad Price's record of 180 3-pointers from 1993-96,
while Montgomery moved into fifth all-time on the career blocks list
with two
on the night to give him 79 for his three-year career. He surpasses Johnny
Brunini who had 77 blocks from 1993-96.
Despite playing its best game of the season, Colorado College (0-12,
0-4 SCAC) tied the game just once in the early going and allowed Millsaps
(11-1, 4-0 SCAC) to stretch its lead to as many as 19 in the first half
before closing the gap to within six points late.
The Majors opened the game on a 12-2 run and never trailed during the
contest, as juniors Chad Songy and Chris
Sanders complemented their 20-point
teammates with 15 and 12 points of their own. Songy added five assists
at the point guard position while filling in for the injured Deonte
Oscar who is likely lost for the season after an early season knee injury.
Montgomery took over for Millsaps in the second half to pull away from
a four-point lead late, 69-65, scoring 14-straight points for the Majors
in a 2:38 span to help make the final margin 94-83 in favor of the visitors.
Senior forward Rodney Rogan played just nine minutes in his first game
after a nasty fall six days ago in a 73-67 win against Trinity. He finished
with four points and two assists.
The Tigers had five scorers in double figures, led by Nate Brodman
who made 5-of-12 3-pointers to finish with 21 points. Lance Jacobs followed
with 16, while Austin Chapman and Nick Rose chipped in season-highs of
15 and 14 points, respectively. Brady Ohlsen recorded his second double-double
with 12 points and a team-best 10 boards.
Millsaps will continue a three-game road stretch on Sunday, playing
Austin College at 3 p.m. in Sherman, Texas. They close the trip with
a non-conference game at the University of Dallas at 5 p.m. on Monday.
