SUWANEE, Ga. – Edrick
Montgomery,
a 6-foot-6, 220-pound senior forward from Pearl, Miss., has been selected
the SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Monday,
Jan. 7 through Sunday, Jan. 13.
Montgomery becomes the second Millsaps selection
in three weeks, joining senior teammate Rodney Rogan as Co-Player of
the Week during Week 6. It is the second weekly honor for Montgomery
in as many seasons.
In the Majors’ weekend
sweep over SCAC foes Colorado College and Austin, Montgomery averaged
25 points and 14 boards, while posting his 21st and 22nd career double-doubles. He
shot a combined 46 percent (18-of-39) from the floor and 70 percent (14-of-20)
from the charity stripe.
The senior poured in a season and
game-high 28 points and grabbed 13 boards against the Tigers, scoring
14-straight points over a 2:38 span late in the game to turn a four-point
lead into an 11-point win. He also picked up a pair of blocks in the
game to move into fifth all-time on the Millsaps career blocks list with
80.
Against the ‘Roos, Montgomery scored a team/game-high 22 points
to go along with a team/game-high 15 rebounds in 27 minutes of work.
For the season, Montgomery is averaging 13.5 points (15th in SCAC) and
9.0 rebounds per game (third in SCAC) in addition to ranking ninth in
the league in steals per game (1.58). He also ranks 21st in all of Division
III in blocks per game (1.92).
