JACKSON – After posting consecutive double-doubles
en route to averaging 25 points and 14 rebounds per game in road wins
over Colorado and Austin College, senior forward Edrick
Montgomery became
the 24th player in the history of the SCAC and just the sixth in Millsaps
history to amass 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.
Montgomery entered the three-game road swing with 967 career points
and had already surpassed the rebound mark two weeks ago. With a 28-point
night on Friday in a 94-83 victory over Colorado College, the senior
entered Sunday's game at Austin needing just six points to reach the
milestone.
Montgomery scored the first six points for the Majors to give them an
early 6-2 lead, hitting a jumper at the 17:33 mark in the first half
off an assist from junior Chad Songy, to hit 1,001 points in just
a three-year span. He finished the night with a game-high 22 points and
15 rebounds to pace Millsaps in a 85-54 win.
Senior teammate Rodney Rogan became the 66th player in SCAC history
to reach 1,000 career points in the Majors' conference-opener on the
road at Hendrix College on Dec. 1. Rogan tied a career-high
with 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor and 8-of-12 shooting
from the charity stripe. He also had eight rebounds and two assists in
the win.
Sitting out the previous two games while nursing an injury suffered
in a 73-67 win over Trinity at home, Rogan currently has 1,125 career
points and 471 career rebounds. He needs just 29 more boards with 11
regular season games left to become the 26th player in SCAC history and
seventh in Millsaps history to accomplish the feat.
Rounding out the list of 1,000-point scorers, senior Lorenzo Bailey
sits at 979 points after scoring a combined 46 points and knocking down
10-of-20 3-pointers in the three-game road trip. He became the school's
career leader in 3-pointers made, passing Brad Price, and is a huge reason
why the Majors have the third-longest active streak in Division III in
consecutive games with a 3-point basket (414).
