Majors Move Up Five Slots to No. 18 in D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll
Millsaps off to its best 16-game start (15-1) since 1994-95 championship season

January 22, 2008

STERLING, Va. – With a three-game sweep over the week on the road at Dallas and at home against SCAC opponents Oglethorpe University and Sewanee, Millsaps moved up five slots from No. 23 to No. 18 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll released Monday night.

The Majors are off to their best 16-game start since the 1994-95 SCAC Championship season when they started 21-1 under then head coach John Stroud and advanced to the "Sweet 16" before a 82-68 loss to Wisconsin-Platteville.

Winners of 12-straight games after a Nov. 25 loss to Division I nemesis Southeastern Louisiana, Millsaps will face its toughest tests of the season this weekend on the road. The Majors will travel to No. 14 Centre College (14-1, 6-0) - winners of 14-straight - on Friday night before a Sunday matinee with DePauw University (12-4, 4-2) to close the trip.

Four of the Majors' five starters are averaging double figures in scoring, led by Rodney Rogan (14.4 ppg), Edrick Montgomery (12.6 ppg), Lorenzo Bailey (11.7 ppg) and Chris Sanders (10.8 ppg). Chad Songy is right on their heels at 8.9 ppg in seven starts.

As a team, Millsaps ranks first in the SCAC (fourth in the nation) in assist/turnover ratio (1.46), turnover margin (+8.50), steals (175), 3-point field goals made (148) and assists (280), while ranking second in scoring margin (+10.6), scoring offense (77.3 ppg) and 3-point field goal pct (.385). They are also fourth in field goal percentage (.446) and scoring defense (66.8 ppg) and fifth in blocks (48) and field goal percentage defense (.432).

After the weekend road-swing, Millsaps will return home Friday, Feb. 1, to open a four-game homestand in the Hangar Dome. They will play host to league foes Rhodes, Birmingham-Southern (provisional member), Colorado College and Austin College.

The 2nd Annual "Take A Kid to the Game" day is slated for Saturday, Feb. 23 vs Hendrix.
