NOTRE DAME, Ind. – In helping the Majors to a 17-3 overall record through the first 20 games while posting an outstanding 3.97 GPA in the classroom, junior Chad Songy of Millsaps has been chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Second Team selection.

Songy, Millsaps' first men's basketball selection in CoSIDA's Academic All-District program history dating back to 2002, joins fellow SCAC hoopsters Mike Powell of Southwestern University and Mike Gilb of Trinity University on this year's second team.

In 11 starts on the season while appearing in all 20 games, Songy is averaging 8.2 ppg and 3.5 apg (fourth in the SCAC) in 23.7 minutes per contest. His assist/turnover ratio of 2.09/1.0 also ranks second in the league while his 69 assists rank first on the team.

To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution.
