SUWANEE, Ga. -- After a pair of conference road wins
over Oglethorpe and Sewanee this past weekend, sophomore guard Chris
Sanders has been selected the SCAC Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week
for games played from Monday, Feb. 5 through Sunday, Feb. 11.
The selection for Sanders is the first of his career and the third time
this season a Millsaps student-athlete has garnered the weekly award
(Rodney Rogan, Edrick Montgomery).
“I try and go out there and play hard every play,” Sanders said. “I
try not to focus too much on scoring, but more on playing tough. It’s
an honor to receive this recognition, I’m very fortunate and hopefully
it will happen again.”
Sanders was undoubtedly the team's most valuable player in this
weekend’s
conference road
sweep, averaging 17.5 pts, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists
and 2.5 steals per game.
Sanders made the hustle plays, picked up key offensive rebounds and was
the catalyst that sent the Majors on several scoring runs.
Sanders shot a combined 74 percent (14-of-19) from the floor, including
a blistering 70 percent from beyond the arc
(7-for-10). The sophomore
also poured in a game and career high 20 pts
in Friday’s come-from-behind
win at Oglethorpe.
For the season, Sanders is averaging 5.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per
game, and is hitting nearly 43 percent (47-of-111) of his attempts from
the field, including 33 percent (15-of-46) from beyond the arc. He also
ranks fifth in the SCAC in steals (40) at 1.74 per game.
