STERLING,
Va. – After
helping guide Millsaps to its best finish in school history at
28-4 and advancing all the way to the Elite Eight in St. Louis, Mo.,
seniors Edrick Montgomery and Lorenzo
Bailey were rewarded this week
by being named
to the 2007-08 All-South Region Team as released by D3hoops.com.
Montgomery was named to the
All-South
Region First Team, following up a Second Team selection last
season, while teammate Bailey was named to the Third Team respectively.
In addition to D3hoops honors, Montgomery was also named to the 2008
National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Second
Team.
A 6-foot-6, 220-pound
forward from Pearl, Montgomery was a unanimous choice this season as
a First Team All-SCAC selection, falling several votes shy for a second-straight
season in being named the Player of the Year, while earning SCAC
Tournament MVP honors.
The senior posted 11 double-doubles
on the year, including back-to-back double-doubles in the NCAA Sectional
at Washington University in St. Louis, to push his career total to
28 in only three seasons in a Millsaps uniform. Montgomery boasted
a season-high 34 points to go along with 13 boards at then 14th-ranked
Centre College and grabbed a season-best 20 rebounds in an 82-73 victory
over St. Mary's (Md) in the Sweet
Sixteen.
A three-time SCAC Player of
the Week and two-time D3hoops.com National Team of the Week selection,
Montgomery ends his stay as Millsaps' career-leader in rebounds with
761, one better than John Garber who grabbed 760 boards from 1993-97.
He also finishes ranked second all-time in rebounding average (9.2
rpg), third all-time in blocks (116), fifth in points (1,383) and
seventh in field goals made
(552)
and
field
goals
attempted
(1,043), while becoming only the seventh player to score 1,000
career points and grab 500 career boards.
Bailey, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound
guard from Jackson who spent four seasons in the purple and white,
ends his Millsaps career with an amazing 232 3-point field goals made,
shattering
the
previous
mark
of 180
held
by Brad
Price
from 1993-96 and connecting on close to 38 percent of his attempts.
He is also the Majors' career-holder in 3s attempted with 617 and
games played with 110.
One of Millsaps' talented
group of seniors, Bailey portrayed the ideal student-athlete over the
previous
four years on and off the court, donating his time at Mission First to
help underpriveleged kids while juggling a hectic day-to-day study and
practice schedule.
A 2007-08 Second Team All-SCAC
and 2006-07 All-SCAC Honorable Mention selection, Bailey had a niche
for knocking down the key shots down the stretch and delivered huge
buckets for the Majors this season, earning him the title of "Big Shot"
Bailey by his peers.
Bailey helped Millsaps extend
one of the more remarkable streaks in Division III this season with
his dangerous shooting from beyond the arc, knocking down at least
one 3-point basket in 30 of 32 games to give the Majors 432 straight-games
with a 3-pointer made – the
nation's third-longest active streak.
In 83 career starts, the senior finishes with 1,207 career points (11.0
ppg), 351 rebounds (3.2 rpg), 224 assists (2.0 apg), 166 steals (4th
all-time
in
Millsaps
history) and 20 blocks.
