Majors Open SCAC Play with 79-64 Win over Hendrix
Rogan, Montgomery add their names to SCAC record books

December 1, 2007

CONWAY, Ark. – Senior forward Rodney Rogan tied a career-high with 26 points to hit the 1,000-point mark in his career and seniors Lorenzo Bailey (17) and Edrick Montgomery (19) each scored in double figures to help the Majors top homestanding Hendrix College in the conference-opener for both teams, 79-64.

Millsaps (4-1, 1-0 SCAC) shot a season-high 52 percent from the floor – 58 percent in the second half – and tied a season-low with just nine turnovers, while scoring 20 points off 17 Hendrix (4-1, 0-1 SCAC) turnovers in the contest.

Along with his 19 points and two blocks, Montgomery also had a team-high nine rebounds as he became the 33rd player to reach 500 career rebounds in SCAC history.

The Majors held the Warriors to 36 percent shooting in the first half, including a dismal 22 percent from beyond the arc, as they took an 11-point lead, 39-28, into intermission.

Rogan scored 14 of his game-high 26 in the first period and Bailey was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field (2-for-2 from beyond the arc) for 10 points as Millsaps trailed twice in the early going at 4-2 and 6-5 before pushing its lead out to as many as 18.

The Majors survived a 10-1 run and a 13-6 run from the Warriors over the first 12:13 of the second and never allowed Hendrix to get within five, holding off 13 points and 10 boards from Andrew King to score 10 of the final 15 points of the game for a 79-64 win.

David Foley led Hendrix with a team-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting and King added 15 points and 15 boards as the Warriors dropped their first game of the season.

Millsaps will continue a stretch of four-straight road games this weekend, taking on Pensacola Christian at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Huntingdon College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
