HAMMOND, La. -- In
front of an announced crowd of 823 at the University Center on Wednesday
night, Division I Southeastern Louisiana proved to be too much for Millsaps,
downing the Majors 90-67 to improve to 8-4 overall and 2-1 at home.
Southeastern Louisiana was led by the stellar play of its four seniors,
Quennell Green, Joseph Polite, Daryl Cohen and Terry Bryant. Each player
scored in double figures, as they combined for 61 of the Lions 90 total
points.
The Lions built an 18-point
halftime lead and never looked back, led by Bryant’s 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and Green’s
3-of-5 performance from beyond the arc. SELU also shot a blistering
69 percent
in the first half, connecting on 20-of-29 field goals.
Millsaps (4-5, 1-1
SCAC) made a run out of intermission, cutting the Lions advantage to
11 points twice,
the last on a jumper by Edrick Montgomery at the
13:17 mark. But Southeastern answered with a 13-4 run over the next 4:09
to increase the lead to 20 points, 75-55, and essentially salt the game
away.
Montgomery led Millsaps with a game-high 17 points on 7-of-14 aim while
Lorenzo Bailey chipped in with 15 and Allen Odum added 13.
All 15 Majors saw playing
time in Wednesday’s game, with Rodney
Rogan (8), Chad Songy (5), Deonte Oscar (9), Montgomery (17), Bailey
(15) and Odum (13) all getting in the scorebook.
Millsaps continues a stretch of 11-straight road contests next weekend
and will try and snap a three-game skid, traveling to LaGrange, Ga.,
to compete in the LaGrange Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
The Majors tip off with LaGrange at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, Dec. 29, followed
by Huntingdon College at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.
