Majors Lose to Southwestern for Second Time This Season
JACKSON, Miss. - Visiting Millsaps College on Fri. Feb. 10 was the 16-5 Southwestern Pirates. Southwestern, who, coming in to the game was tied for first place with Trinity University in the conference, is the only team who earlier in the season completely controlled the Majors throughout the entire game. In the rematch, the Majors were hoping to demonstrate the degree to which they have improved throughout the season by defeating the Pirates.
As it was Senior Night for Millsaps, the Majors started all four of their graduating seniors – Brad Greenhaw, Morgan Walvoord, Justin LeBlanc and Tyler Warren. The first half proved to be a close contest as the seniors and Millsaps underclassmen held the Pirates to less than 50 percent shooting from the field.
Millsaps took the initial 3-0 lead in the game to begin the back and forth battle. At the halfway point in the first, Southwestern held a 15-10 lead over the home team, and they were able to hold this advantage throughout the remainder of the half. As the two teams went to their locker rooms, the score was 38-29, Southwestern.
In the second, Millsaps demonstrated the growth in their maturity by continuing to fight back against the Pirates. The Majors worked to slowly cut down the Southwestern lead until with 12:59 to play in the game, the score was tied 43-43.
Southwestern, however, proved why they are in the top spot of the SCAC by remaining focused. The Pirates managed to maintain a small advantage over Millsaps and eventually won the game 78-66.
In the contest, Rodney Rogan led the Majors with 26 points and 11 total rebounds. The sophomore was followed by Lorenzo Bailey with 13 points and eight rebounds. Millsaps will next face Trinity University on Feb. 12 at home.
