Majors Lose Final Regual Season Game; Look Toward SCAC Tourney

JACKSON, Miss. —The Millsaps College Majors took on the Lynx of Rhodes College on Sun. Feb. 19, in their final match-up of the 2005-2006 regular season. Traveling to Memphis, Tenn. over the weekend, the Majors hoped to pull out a victory before heading into the SCAC tournament.

Millsaps, however, struggled at Rhodes, shooting only 47 percent for the entire game, compared to the 56 percent that the Lynx shot. The Majors also struggled at the free throw line, making only 66 percent of those shots.

The Lynx took advantage of the Majors’ struggles early, grabbing a strong first half lead and going into the locker room at halftime with a 40-25 advantage over the visiting Millsaps squad.

Millsaps was able to put together a much stronger second half, despite several of the Majors players being plagued by illness. In the second, the Majors outscored the Lynx 56-47, but they were never able to gain the solid lead, eventually losing 87-81.

Lorenzo Bailey led the Majors with 15 points, followed by Tyler Warren with 14. The loss brings the Majors’ regular season record to a final 14-11 (7-7). The Majors finished the year sixth in the conference and will begin SCAC tournament play this weekend.
