JACKSON -- Senior
forward Ana Castillo scored a game-high 19 points and pulled
down a game-high 12 rebounds
to help lead the University of Dallas to a 66-56 win over the
Millsaps Majors on Wednesday night at the Hangar Dome.
With the win,
the Lady Crusaders earn the series sweep and improve to 7-8 on
the year.
Millsaps blew a 12-point first half lead and were outscored
37-20 in the second half en route to its 10th loss of the season
to just
two wins.
The Majors held a 36-29 edge heading into the locker room, but
a furious 20-5 run from the University of Dallas to open the second
half gave the Lady Crusaders a 49-41 lead that they would never
relinquish.
Senior guard Kristy Malone sparked the Dallas run, scoring 10 of
her 14 points in that span by knocking down a pair of 3-pointers,
a jumper and a layup.
After shooting close to 42 percent in the first half, the Majors
shot a dismal 21 percent from the floor in the second half, only
knocking down six total field goals in the period.
LaReina Adams scored all 12 of her points in the second half and
came two rebounds short of her eighth double-double of the season
before fouling out with 7:13 remaining in the game.
Deborah Sturgis picked up her second double-double of the season
with a 15 point, 11 rebound performance, while Marianne Smith had
14 and Crystal Dickerson added 12.
The Majors
will be back in action on Friday and Sunday, playing host to
conference opponents Oglethorpe and Sewanee.
Friday's
game tips off at 6 p.m. with Sunday's game slated for a 3 p.m.
start live on ESPN Radio 1240AM with broadcaster Derrel Palmer.
