JACKSON – The
Millsaps CMT Global Missions team is having a fundraiser for
the Nothing But Nets organization at the men's and women's basketball
games on Friday, Feb. 8, against visiting Colorado College. Tipoff
is set for 6 and 8 p.m.
Nothing But Nets is a global campaign
to save lives by preventing malaria, which is a leading killer
of children in Africa. A victim of this disease dies every 30
seconds and 90 percent of those are children.
The campaign started when Rick Reilly,
a columnist for Sports Illustrated, wrote an article which challenged
his readers to donate 10 dollars which could buy one net to save
an entire family. Other partners with Nothing But Nets are The
United Nations Foundation, the United Methodist Church and the
NBA Cares foundation.
Donations are appreciated and there
will be a raffle for prizes that include the names of all those
who donate. The money will go towards buying bednets for children
in Africa to help prevent malaria.
