Texas – Junior
standout Krista Prato Matthews netted a game-high 22 points
on 9-of-13 shooting and Trinity racked up 11 blocks on the
defensive end to cruise past the
Majors at home, 90-60, and
improve to 17-5
overall
and
11-2
in SCAC
play.
Millsaps (6-18,
3-11 SCAC) was limited to just four assists on 31 percent shooting,
using a team-high 14 points – 11
in the first half – from
junior Crystal Dickerson to
stay in the game early before the host Tigers pulled away in
the second period for the 30-point
win.
The Majors
hung tough with the heavily favored Tigers in the first period,
closing the gap to within nine points at 21-12 with 8:24 left
in the half on a Dickerson and-1, before TU rallied to score
nine-straight points and take a 42-28 lead into intermission.
Matthews and
Tierney Hughes scored 13 and 10 points in the period to help
offset 13 percent shooting (2-of-15) from beyond the arc, while
holding Millsaps to 28 percent shooting from the floor and forcing
12 first half turnovers.
It was also
TU in the second half, as the Tigers opened on a 27-7 run and
built their lead to as many as 39 with 5:34 left in regulation
en route to 50 percent shooting from the floor and a 14th-straight
win over the visiting Majors.
Juniors Tiffany
Whitmore (10 pts, 12 rebounds) and LaReina
Adams (12 pts,
10 rebounds) eached notched double-doubles for Millsaps and freshman
Krista Clark added nine points off the bench but it wasn't enough
as four scorers hit double figures to pace the TU offense.
Millsaps will
close out the 2007-08 campaign next weekend, playing host to
Hendrix College on Saturday, Feb. 23, in Jackson. Tip-off is
set for 1 p.m. during the 2nd
Annual "Take A Kid to the
Game" Day. |
