Majors Close Season with a 14-point Win over Hendrix
Whitmore notches career-high 29, Dickerson and Adams post double-doubles

February 23, 2008

JACKSON In the season finale during "Take A Kid to the Game" Day at Millsaps College, junior Tiffany Whitmore pumped in a career-high 29 points and fellow juniors Crystal Dickerson and LaReina Adams posted double-doubles to help the Majors to a 73-59 win over visiting Hendrix College on Saturday afternoon.

Millsaps finishes the season at 7-18 overall and 4-11 in SCAC play, missing out of the conference tournament in Conway, Ark., next weekend by one win after failing to split a weekend road swing at Trinity and Southwestern last weekend.

In a game that featured 13 lead changes and eight ties, it was the Majors who took control late in the second half by going on a 14-2 run with 8:11 remaining for their largest lead of the game at 16 points, 67-51. They traded buckets with the Warriors the final 4:12 to come away with the 14-point victory.

Whitmore netted 18 of her career-high 29 in the second period, connecting on 6-of-10 shots from the floor in addition to five rebounds and a pair of assists. Dickerson also had a breakout second half, scoring 11 of her career-high 23 and grabbing eight rebounds for a game-high 14 to post her third double-double of the year.

Millsaps shot the ball well for the game as a team, knocking down 46 percent from the floor, while holding Hendrix and its top player, Christina Byler, to 34 percent. Byler entered the game averaging a team-best 19.4 ppg (second in the SCAC) and managed to score 13 points and grab 12 rebounds despite shooting a poor 2-of-15 from the floor.

Kendra Anderson (11) and Chelsey White (15) were the other Warriors in double figures with White scoring all her points off the bench and Lindsay Merritt falling one point shy of a double-double.

Second-year head coach Mary Bolton and the Majors don't lose any seniors from this year's squad and will hit the recruiting trails this spring to bring in a strong class in the fall.
