CLINTON – Freshman
Cori Tucker scored a game and career-high 16 points on 5-of-7
shooting from 3-point land – all
in the second half – but it wasn't enough as visiting Millsaps
couldn't overcome a 15-point halftime deficit in a 60-55 loss
to MS College Monday night.
Millsaps (1-2) hit five of its first 10 shots and all five free
throws for an early 15-5 lead 7:05 into the game before turnovers
hit and
MC
(2-1)
finished the half on a 31-6 run to put the Majors down
by double-digit points, 36-21, for the second-straight
game.
Rosemary Green scored 12 of her team-high 16 points and also
grabbed a team-high four rebounds in the first to pace the Lady
Choctaw offense, while JC transfer Tiffany
Whitmore hit three
of the Majors' six field goals in the half for 10 of her season-high
14 points.
Millsaps trailed by double-digits the entire second half and
by as many as 18 at 56-38 until a 17-4 run over the final 7:54,
in which MC didn't have a field
goal, cut the final margin to within a couple baskets.
The Millsaps run started on a made free throw and a
layup by junior LaReina Adams who had nine points and eight rebounds
off the bench in 21 minutes, followed by a 3-pointer from Tucker
who hit four in a six-minute span.
Emily
Younger's basket off a steal proved to be the eventual game-winner
for
the Lady
Choctaws,
giving them their second-straight win after a season-opening
loss to the Majors.
Neither team shot well in the game and combined for 53 turnovers
in a low scoring affair, with MC hitting just 37 percent while
holding
Millsaps
to a season-low
31 percent.
The Majors will look to snap a two-game skid as they conclude
a three-game road swing Sunday, facing off with SCAC foe Hendrix
College at 1 p.m. in Conway, Ark.
Millsaps will return to the
Hangar Dome the following day to open a three-game homestand
against the University of Dallas at 3 p.m. The Crusaders won
both games last year in a home-and-home, winning 62-56 in Jackson
and 66-56 in Irving, Texas.
