JACKSON -- Five
different Louisiana College players scored in double figures and
freshman Joanna Tate chipped in a game and career-high 18 points
as the Lady Wildcats picked up their first victory of the season
in an 84-55 win over the Millsaps Majors on Tuesday night at the
Hangar Dome.
Louisiana College (1-6, 0-4 American Southwest) was led by Tate’s
18 and Stacy Elder, who posted a career-high 12 points – all
from beyond the arc. Kelli Brasher and Stormy Ingle also did a
nice job coming off the bench, as both added 10 points apiece.
The Lady Wildcats shot a season high 77 percent from the free throw
line and held Millsaps to below 30 percent shooting from the floor – the
fourth time in six games for the Majors.
Millsaps (1-5, 0-2 SCAC) dropped its fourth consecutive game overall
and third-straight by 28 points or more.
LaReina Adams picked up her team-leading fourth double-double
of the season, chipping in 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Deborah
Sturgis (16) and Leslie Frese (13) both scored in double figures.
The Majors hope to rise out of a four game slump this weekend,
traveling to local rival Mississippi College on Saturday, Dec.
9. Tip off is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
Millsaps continues a three-week road trip with stops in Clinton,
South Padre (Texas), Memphis (Tenn.) and Holly Springs. They will
return home Jan. 10 to play a string of three consecutive home
games including the University of Dallas, Oglethorpe and Sewanee.
