JACKSON – Freshman
Ronda Webb netted a career-high 28 points on 11-of-12 shooting
from the floor and junior Tiffany
Whitmore contributed her second
double-double in three games but it wasn't enough as Millsaps
fell to cross-city rival Belhaven 82-69 on Saturday.
Millsaps (2-6, 0-1 SCAC) couldn't
overcome a 9-point halftime deficit and a season-high 37 turnovers
as they
dropped their third game in a row. Belhaven (4-5) had four scorers
in double figures, led by Lurena Robinson
with
21
points
on 7-of-11 aim and Holly Dial with 16.
Belhaven took advantage of a 51-38 rebounding advantage, including
27 offensive rebounds, and shot 57 percent (8-of-14) from 3-point
land as they held on late for a 13-point win.
In a physical contest that tallied 58 fouls and two Millsaps foul-outs,
the Majors hit 23-of-40 free throws for just 58 percent, while
the host Blazers shot just 64 percent (18-of-28).
Crystal Dickerson was the other
Major in double figures with 11 points, while sophomore Megan
Bauerle added eight points and four
rebounds off the bench. Freshman Cori
Tucker dished out a game-high
five dimes.
Millsaps will look to snap a three-game
losing streak this weekend at home, jumping back into SCAC play
with games against Southwestern and Trinity University. Sunday's
originally scheduled game has been moved up a day to Saturday
