Senior point guard Jillian Compton scored
ten points Friday night in the Lady Majors season opening 89-50 win against
Judson College. But she needed only six points to cross the 1,000 point
mark for her career at Millsaps.
Early in the first quarter, just three points
from the mark Compton hit, what else, a three-pointer. Compton is second
on the Majorrs all-time list for three-pointers made with 118. Millsaps
Hall of Famer Carla Webb leads the category with 171. Compton is now seventh
on the all-time scoring list with 1,004 points.
Junior guard Martha McDaniel led the Majors,
however, with 17 points including three 3-pointers. Crystal Bender, who
had 13 points, also connected on three 3-pointers. Debbie Sturgis, Miranda
Rosar, and Krystle Holliday had eight points each.
The Lady Majors never trailed in the game
and after ten minutes they held a commanding lead of 30-9. The Lady Majors
held leads of more than 21 points throughout the game, although the Lady
Eagles would close that gap to 15 points shortly after halftime, the Majors
would pull away.
